A Pittsburgh native and son of a third-generation steel worker, John V. Vinay, grew up in the Monongahela river valley at a time when the US Steel industry was collapsing. After graduating from Steel Valley High School, John obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in psychology and behavioral neuroscience. His graduate work was completed at Duquesne University in the Counselor Education program.  Additional credits were obtained at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for state licensure.  John is also a Nationally Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist, Certified Telemental Health Provider, and Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider.

John’s work with teenagers began shortly after graduation as he developed, implemented, and directed innovative residential programming for abused and neglected teenagers for a local non-profit organization.

John’s 25 years of clinical experience includes school-based counseling, out-patient therapy, in-patient therapy, and counseling for children, teens, and their families in residential placement.

He is currently on staff at a local psychiatric hospital and operates a private counseling practice in the evenings.
